Symptoms

When you try to logon to Content Studio logon fails even though the password is correct. When you access the site from another machine logon works as expected. Also some server side code can stop working ex. the CDO mail object.

Cause

This problem occurs on computers running Content Studio on either Windows XP Servicepack 2 or Windows Server 2003 Service pack 1 or later and the url is something else than the machine name. Ex. if my computer is called WEBB0001 but the url is http://intranet/cs this problem might occur. This problem only does occurs if the site is configured to use Integrated Security. The problem is caused by a security update introduced in the service packs mentioned above which introduces as loopback control check.

Resolution

Please refer to the following knowledge base article from Microsoft.

You receive error 401.1 when you browse a Web site that uses Integrated Authentication and is hosted on IIS 5.1 or IIS 6

This article specifies two methods to correct the problem and for security reasons we strongly recommend using the second method.
